Frans Afman, a great film friend and member of our supervisory board has passed away

Frans Afman contributed to the financing of Hollywood productions such as PLATOON,WHEN HARRY MET SALLY, DANCES WITH WOLVES, A ROOM WITH A VIEW, TOTAL RECALL, THE NAME OF THE ROSE, THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR, TERMINATOR, RAMBO II and III and SUPERMAN II and III. He worked with great producers such as the late Dino de Laurentiis, had an enormous international network  and thanks to his positive look on life and total lack of attitude he was a popular guest of the Cannes film market.

Afman gained an excellent reputation in the film business due to the ‘Afman method’ which he introduced in the seventies as international banker for the Slavenburg Bank. Here he instigated a special division for financing films.

From 1996 to 2007, Afman was chairman of the board of the Nederlands Film Festival. After he left the was knighted in the order of Oranje Nassau to honour his contribution to Dutch cinema. Afman was a member of the supervisory board of Film by the Sea from 2008 onwards.
