Each year, Film by the Sea gives a Lifetime Achievement Award to a special filmmaker. This year, Film by the Sea honours Jean-Claude Carrière with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The award will be given to Carrière on 17 September. Previous recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award of Film by the Sea include Ettore Scola (2003), Saul Zaentz and Milos Forman (2004), Istvan Szábo (2005), Jonathan Demme (2006), Volker Schlöndorff (2007), Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne (2008) and George Sluizer (2009).
