Film and Justice

In cooperation with Zeeuwse Meesters, the Roosevelt Academy and Emergis, Film by the Sea is proud to present an extensive programme around the theme of Film and Justice. The programme is open to professionals as well as general audiences.

Canon

The programme is inspired by ‘Law and Literature’, a branch within the fields of law and literature that focuses on the interdisciplinary connections between them. For the festival, a committee of renowned jurists and film experts selected the canon of the 25 best films that explore justice and jurisdiction. The committee consists of LLM Winnie Sorgdrager, Prof. LLM Dr. Jeanne Gaakeer, Prof. LLM Dr. Pieter Ippel, René Appel, Leo Hannewijk en LLM Jan Loorbach.

The films of the canon will be introduced by filmmakers, writers and legal experts. Furthermore, there is an educational section and a section centred on (violations of) human rights.
 

Courses

In cooperation with the Roosevelt Academy, Emergis, Zeeuwse Meesters, VAAZ, SSR and the Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten (Dutch Association of Lawyers), Film by the Sea organises a set of high-quality courses and symposia for legal experts. Topics range from European law to ethics to legislation regarding mental healthcare. The courses will take place in the Roosevelt Academy, the historical Burgerzaal in Middelburg, and CineCity Vlissingen.
